The Geekom Mini PC is a great value. It can be a great family PC or an inexpensive server. For about $499, you get an Intel Core i5 processor, 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro, and a VESA mount.
This is an affordable Mini PC that has plenty of ports. There are three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a Kensington Security Slot, HDMI, and DisplayPort. In addition, the mini PC supports 4K@60Hz displays. A spare 2.5 inch SATA bay is included in the box.
The Mini IT8 also has a built-in cooling fan, which helps to maintain a high response speed. Two side grills help with airflow.
While the body of the Geekom Mini IT8 is made of solid metal, the top is glossy plastic. Like most glossy surfaces, this is likely to pick up fingerprints. Also, it lacks a keyboard.
Despite its shortcomings, this is a decent mini PC that can be configured to meet a variety of computing needs. You can install Linux, install Windows, or run a virtual machine. If you need more than a little power, you can add a 32GB RAM upgrade.
If you want to play more demanding games, you might be better off spending a little more on a more powerful pre-built gaming rig. Alternatively, you could go with a cheaper AMD option.
The GEEKOM Mini IT8 is a great family PC. But it isn’t the best choice for a gaming PC.
